Frost Amplifiers Tassie Devil 8w 1x10" Guitar Combo Amp
This little guy loves to belt out a tune. Frost Amplifiers is the project of talented Tasmanian electrical engineer Tim Krushka. Tim has been repairing amps and selling parts for many years, working solo from his workshop twenty minutes from downtown Hobart. The Tassie Devil is Tim's second original circuit, a low wattage bare bones amp with less bells and whistles than his flagship Clapp15. First up, it's a very practical size: 11kg and fairly compact, with a single 10" Greenback driver. The cabinet, chassis and grill are all beautifully executed, so it presents really nicely. Being a smaller amp, this was never meant to offer Fender Twin style clean headroom. With a single coil guitar, this will offer sweet, chiming cleans with the volume below halfway, and gradually add natural compression, growly midrange kick and singing harmonics as you wind it up towards the maximum volume. It's a full, fat and open tone, with a more assured low end than many other small amps. The overdrive/clean switch is pretty subtle, offering more of a natural thickening of the midrange than a full blown overdrive. There's plenty to like here, it's a great little amp for home, rehearsals or smaller shows.
