Kawai Short Scale Double Cut Electric c1960

Kawai Short Scale Double Cut Electric c1960

Kawai electric, made in Japan early 60s, sunburst. This is a cute little thing! Kawai was a famed piano manufacturer in the early 20th century; they added guitars to the line-up in 1954 and then later bought out Teisco in 1967 to further their guitar offerings. This one dates to early in the piece, although attaining an exact date and model number has proved difficult. Here's what we know: it's a nicely made little thing with a great tone. The short scale and single coils offer a thumpy, thick attack balanced by a nice 'pluck'; it's certainly at home with a big spring reverb and a light drive. The neck has a functional truss rod and a moderate profile, it's pretty easy to play and has held up well over the decades. The worn sunburst and superb blood-style tort guard make for a very cool look; this is exceptionally cute. K for kute!

Model: Kawai, exact model unverified
Made: Japan, early 1960s
Finish: sunburst, 3 ply blood tort guard

Pickups: original single coils
Case: quirky original vintage case, good quality and condition

Cosmetic condition notes: mild finish wear. Headstock has a couple of minor scuffs on the end. The neck is clean and smooth in the hands, minor dimples on te back only. The back has some dimples around the outside edge and some light scuffs, no major marks. The sides have dimples and light scuffs extending around the whole body, no major marks though. The front is pretty tidy, just some scuffs around the outside edge and some play wear on the guard and top horn. Overall: very good condition (8/10)

Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. Electronics all tested and working properly. There's a bit of minor wear on the frets but they're in great shape, 8/10 for fret life left. Wearing fresh 11/49s.
